Courses Annual
Learn English in small groups, three hours per week, throughout the school year (September to June). You can join a group during the year.
We offer eight learning levels. A short assessment helps us find the level that suits you best.
Select a level to see examples of the skills it aims to develop.
Level 1: Beginner
(From a complete beginner to A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages — CEFR)
If you have never studied English and want to start from scratch, the course provides 100 hours of lessons (plus 50–60 hours of homework). Example learning goals include:
Level 2: Elementary
(A1 to A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
You may have studied English at school for two, three or four years but found it difficult to keep up. Now you may need English for work or to write your CV. After 100 hours of lessons (plus 50–60 hours of homework), example learning goals include:
Level 3: Pre-intermediate
(A2 to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
You may know some grammar and understand a lot of English, but still find speaking difficult. You may need more confidence or vocabulary. This level works towards independent communication without constantly relying on help from the other person. After 100 hours of lessons (plus 50–60 hours of homework), example learning goals include:
Level 4: Intermediate
(Consolidating CEFR level B1; B1.4 is the school's internal reference)
You can communicate reasonably well in a range of situations but tend to use the same expressions. You need more vocabulary and a wider range of grammatical structures to explain more abstract or complex situations. After 100 hours of lessons (plus 50–60 hours of homework), example learning goals include:
Level 5: Upper-intermediate
(Consolidating B1 and preparing for B2; B1.4 and B1.8 are the school's internal references)
You feel comfortable in English, use a range of grammatical structures and have a reasonable vocabulary and knowledge of idiomatic expressions. You would like to develop your skills further, perhaps to take Cambridge English B2 First. After 100 hours of lessons (plus 50–60 hours of homework), example learning goals include:
Level 6: B2 First (FCE) — Cambridge English
(Progressing from CEFR B1 to B2; B1.8 is the school's internal reference)
You may want B2 First because it is valued by employers or useful for studying abroad. Level 6 aims for CEFR B2, an independent user. Prepare with us before taking the exam at a nearby centre, usually in Lisbon. The course may be 100 or 150 hours, depending on your starting level. Skills practised at this level include:
Read the B2 First (FCE) exam details on the official Cambridge English website. Acceptance of a certificate depends on each institution's or employer's requirements.
Level 7: C1 Advanced (CAE) — Cambridge English
(B2 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
You already have B2 First but want to improve your English for professional or academic reasons. C1 Advanced is recognised by many employers and educational institutions. Prepare with us over 100 or 150 hours, then take the exam at a nearby centre. Skills practised at this level include:
Read the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam details on the official Cambridge English website. Acceptance of a certificate depends on each institution's or employer's requirements.
Level 8: C2 Proficiency (CPE) — Cambridge English
(C1 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
You already have C1 Advanced and may be planning to study abroad at university or teach English at a high level. C2 Proficiency can be a valuable addition to your CV, but it requires considerable time and effort. Skills practised at this level include:
Read the C2 Proficiency (CPE) exam details on the official Cambridge English website. Acceptance of a certificate depends on each institution's or employer's requirements.
